The INTERNET is a wild place, but there are a lot of laws surrounding how you do business. Some of the laws are enforced globally like copyright, and others varies among countries like privacy laws.

- The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, effective April 21, 2000, applies to the collection of personal information from children under 13 via the Internet. COPPA spells out what a site operator should include in a privacy policy, when and how to seek verifiable consent from a parent and what responsibilities an operator has to protect children's privacy and safety online.
- There are a lot of reprint sites available on the Web. However, free can sometimes come with a hidden price - especially if the site is a reprinter that violates copyright. Even if you have added the content in good faith, if you are hosting plagiarized content, you could be liable.
- Creative Commons is a way to share artwork protected by Copyright. Authors don't lose the Copyright when they use Creative Commons, they are just providing a way for others to use and share work while providing the credit. It's like open source for things other than software. This website is using Creative Commons.
- Section 230(c)(1) of the CDA provides immunity from liability for providers and users of an "interactive computer service" who publish information provided by others: "No provider or user of an interactive computer service shall be treated as the publisher or speaker of any information provided by another information content provider." It is important to become familiar with this piece of legislation and its boundaries if you host third parties' content.
- Legal pages for websites may include a few or all of these items : Privacy policies - Copyright notices - Terms and conditions of use - Disclaimers, Accessibility information - Abuse or Complaints - Trademarks - Other corporate policies - Anything else your lawyer thinks it is a good idea to have depending on particular circumstances and business model.
